Practice squad

I dont know if this has been suggested before but a 7 player practice squad where you can keep developmental players and additional depth seems necessary due to the amounts of injuries that affect teams every season and brings this sim closer to the reality of the NFL

I agree wholeheartedly

Agreed. I need some way to manage my team outside of cutting players left and right. For the best part of the young season, I've had 8+ (minor) injuries on starters. Since I've at some point employed or sent an offer to a player and withdrawn it, they no longer want to talk contract with me, despite being in FA. If I could instead juggle it with practise squad or something, that'd be neat.

Also bonus question out of ignorance: This 46 active player limit - is that enforced in the NFL too? It makes sense to me with the injuries and all, but I've always thought I could have 52 active players (like in Madden).

I agree and it has been talked about more than once!

Having practice squads would be a huge headache. Remember in the real world, anyone can sign your practice squad player. So why not just leave them as FAs?

Id rather have a 3 week buffer on when players would resign with you. Week 1 = waivers; weeks 2-3 = sign with everyone else; week 4 and on they'd resign with you (after all, a paycheck is a paycheck).

Yes it is .. to an extent. You can have an inactive 3rd QB and he can play due to injury. Not certain on the specifics, but I know once he's in, he can't be replaced.

This is why there is no practice squad - it would basically be an extra amount of work with no real value.

I cannot see a substantial argument here. If all teams have their own practice squads (PS) why they should often sign players from other PS?

And beside that a PS would have two further advantages over the FAs.
First FA's are often in bad conditioning if you need them during the season. But PS players could train with the team and therefore wouldn't have this problem.
And secondly due to the training with the team PS players would have an improved familiarity with the plays of your team as FAs (or players from other PS).

Because NFL teams do it all the time during the season ...
