I do. Virtually they got a high 2nd rounder to swap 2nd string QB's.

The 49ers are paying a good sized chunk of Hoyers contract for the next 3 yrs that he's under contract with the Patriots paying a smaller portion of it. The 49ers still have Jimmy G being an UFA next season which is bargaining power for Jimmy G if the 49ers choose to extend him.

Until Jimmy G does something he's still just a backup to me. And Jimmy G prolly wants to get paid. And the 49ers might have to overpay for a second string QB unless he becomes the next Tom Brady or Brett Farve off the bench. Brock Osweiler anyone?

I'm hoping the Pats live to regret it, they've hit a few home runs with QBs in recent times and Brady isn't getting any younger, one big hit and he's out.

Jimmy wanted a chance to start, and if the Patriots thought Brady could play a couple more seasons there was no chance they were paying Jimmy G starting level salary or using the Franchise tag on him. They basically had no chance of retaining him short of ensuring Brady would not be on the team next season (that wasn't going to happen). They had to move him which makes this a good deal for both sides.
