active for training camp?

Do players - specifically rookies - need to be active at their intended position for the training camp sim? I'm hoping to sign some draftees that were cut and change their positions, but I'm wondering if they won't get the coaching bump for their "future" position since I won't get to swap them before the TC sim runs. Just wondering if it's not worth the bother if they'll miss out on any improvement.

Also, just curious if a player needs to be active for training camp, or if they get any benefit from TC just for being on your roster. Thanks for any input.

Simply said no but in terms of position switching experience within that position is what changes at camp. Same for a players weight .

As for the not so simple your position coaches do affect growth. As little as I may be. A free agent doesn’t get these benefits but he does get that predetermined potential growth of the ratings (bars)

I was hoping a few of those lottery ticket 83 speed/70 break tackle/23 pass accuracy QBs could get converted to RBs and get a magical bump in pass-catching skills from backfield coaching in TC but it never really works out that way. A guy can dream.

They can still be useful, just not as a workhorse back. I have a backup QB in NFL League that serves as my RB 5 and he's had to play a tiny bit. Joseph Watts https://nfl.myfootballnow.com/team/3

when a great question posted to a forum thread devolves into drafting qb's to be rb's there may just be a problem with player creation and the incredibly thin draft pool post 3rd round.

I, personally, will change rookies to the position I want them to actually play in.
with the exception of o and d lines.
I leave them be and change post TC.
Any other "hopefuls" I change pre-TC.
Usually.
My most common exception is a late round WR I know is a better RB. If they pop as a trash WR, and can handle the weight gain to speed loss (over 80 must be the end result), i will keep a wr convert to rb as a wr for TC to boost catch and route.
That's just me.
O/D line: TC and then sort.
WR to RB or Vice versa: Wait until after training camp. Hoping to boost the catch and route.

All other I convert BEFORE TC, because as a person mentioned - weight transfers begin with TC.
If weight gain or loss is the be all end all post position change, wait until after TC.
Let the secondary attributes blossom as TC progression occurs.
I hold this method true for rookies through vets, and every bit of it relies upon a rookie popping or a vet which already has positive progress.

Here’s a defensive player with 50 pass catching. Probably the best I have ever seen a player grow to when relating it to his original position during the player generation. I have seen true centers and QBs have near 50 pass catching but they had the potential beforehand. Even with 100 volatility the growth will be minimal if the distances between the red and blue bars are close.
For example 7/32 (actual/potential)will more likely see more than 14/24. Even if both had 32 potential the 7 would deviate further pending a boom or bust.

Interesting. I'm guessing that 50 pass catching skill probably somehow contributes to his 100+ career interceptions too. May have to start looking at outlier skill ratings that could give a player an edge. Thanks for the tip.

Over the past few months I been testing this theory. Many top users have been applying it for some time now.

The pass catching skill was looked at years ago around the time parabolic applications were being applied to select ratings. QBs will low accuracy fell off the map in-terms of productivity, players with low bump and run skills couldn’t get separation or vice versa, but what also showed up at that time was offense players playing DB.

This is because, my hypothesis has pass catching almost acting as how a player tracks the ball in the air while he’s putting himself in position to make a play on it. Great and all for the wr and qb but understanding how pass catching works when being parabolic has me thinking it turns an average defender into a ball hawk.

Add in some of 4.6s minor flaws and this ball hawking ability shows up pretty heavily in terms of the stat categories. My elite skilled defenders with low pass catching typically will lead the league in knockdowns where my mediocre defenders with 30 pass catching will pick off a higher amount of ***** in comparison to the ratio of knockdowns .

Don’t get me wrong play selection and player skill matters but throw some pass catching in there and you’ll see a difference. In his prime this DB linked was maxed out in every desired skill. I offered 3 first rounders for him and was turned down.
