when you scout a team this is how it goes
Scout Offense - how familiar your defense is with a called offensive play
Scout Defense - how familiar your offense is with a called defensive play

there is no way to know how familiar your opponents team is with a play other than the number of times it's been called, which makes sense because in real life no coach is going to tell another team "hey we are really good at running 'insert random play' but we **** running 'insert random play'.

So I need to make sure I understand WHOSE Knowledge or Familiarity I'm seeing in Scout.


It's your team's familiarity with their play. The more familiar your players are with the opposition's play, the better they will perform.

As long as several of us are reaching out for help, I have another question re: the plays themselves. I haven't asked before now, because I thought I was the only one that "didn't ghet it".

On each of the plays it shows :
Off Familiarity: 96%
Def Familiarity: 93%
Times Used/Avg: 18/2.4
1st Down/Avg: 10/3.1
2nd Down/Avg: 3/1.9
3rd Down/Avg: 5/1.2

could someone............, rather Would someone explain (specifically, item by item) how to read all that info?

Thank you in advance for helping an newb try and get a grasp on how this all works.

It's actually your offensive players' familiarity and your defensive players' familiarity.

But how can my defensive players be familiar with an offensive play?
In football (soccer), defenders wouldn't be any good at skinning players on the wing.
Maybe I'm just tired and it's very late? ?

They get familiar by practicing against it. They aren't performing the play, but they are defending it. In the NFL, teams will scout their upcoming opponent and they have a scout team that actually runs their most common plays so that the defense gets used to seeing certain things; essentially that's what happens when you scout plays here, and your defensive familiarity with an offensive play indicates how well your defense is prepared to defend that play.

Okay, let me give you an NFL example to help you understand defense knowing an offensive play. Super Bowl XLIV: Tracy Porter was a corner for the New Orleans Saints and he was so familiar with a play that the Colts ran a lot (specifically knew the route Reggie Wayne was running) that he jumped it and caught the game sealing interception and ran it back. All of that because he saw the play and immediately knew what play the Colts were doing. That's what the defensive scouting offensive plays are meant to emulate.
